A local magisterial court on Saturday ordered an inquiry into the case of alleged defamation filed against senior Congress leader, Narhari Amin, by Gujarat University’s vice-chancellor Adesh Pal.
The metropolitan magistrate PT Patel asked Pal to remain present to make his statement on December 1. He will also make a statement in connection with an earlier complaint filed by him against Congress president, Arjun Modhwadia, alleging defamation.
Sources said Amin had issued statements to the media on three different days in September alleging that Pal was corrupt and consumed liquor. He also referred to a personal family affair of Pal’s.
Pal, in his complaint, stated that Amin had defamed him in society, family as well among the student and academic fraternity. Hence, he should be liable to be prosecuted. The court received his complaint and ordered inquiry under section 202 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Pal was recently made the vice-chancellor of GU and Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia and syndicate members, Amin and Digvijaysinh Gohil, issued various statements to the media against Pal’s character.
