I didn't compare Narendra Modi with monkey: Arjun Modhwadia

President of Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), Arjun Modhwadia on Friday denied having compared CM Narendra Modi with a monkey.

“I didn’t compare the chief minister with a monkey. My remark has been misinterpreted by the media,” said Modhwadia addressing mediapersons. “I had used proverb of a monkey sitting atop a tree challenging a lion to show that there cannot be a comparison between the prime minister and the chief minister. These are constitutional posts, and I wouldn’t compare them to animals.”

He, however, added that he only wanted to show the chief minister his place.

Modhwadia said that Modi is targeting central leadership of Congress, but hasn’t uttered a word about Gujarat’s issues in the last couple of months. “Modi should talk about why 10 lakh educated youngsters in the state are unemployed, and about commercialisation of education and health services, the spurt in state’s debt in recent years, and slowing down of state’s GDP growth from 16% to 9.5%,” he said.

Modhwadia had on Monday compared the chief minister with a monkey while addressing a public meeting at Asarwa. Accusing the congress president of using derogatory language, BJP on Thursday lodged a complaint against him with the Election Commission on India (EC).

Party spokesperson from New Delhi, Prakash Javadekar also condemned the language used against Gujarat CM.
