Expressing concern at the growing tendency of neglecting old loyalists in the party, senior Congress leader and union minister of state for railways KH Muniyappa on Sunday cautioned the party leadership that the tendency could spoil the party’s prospects in the forthcoming assembly elections in the state. Addressing a Congress rally as part of the campaign ‘Congressge Banni, Badalavane Thanni’ at KR Puram, Muniyappa said: “Some disturbing developments are taking place in the party. Many loyal old-timers are neglected, creating confusion in the minds of the party’s rank and file. This should not be allowed.”
He appealed to Congress leaders to retain the loyal senior leaders in the party. “AICC president Sonia Gandhi has given clear instructions to KPCC president G Parameshwar on leading the party. We are ready to join hands in this regard with the party leadership,” Muniyappa said. Muniyappa’s concern comes in the wake of discontentment brewing in a section of the Congress that those who entered the party in the recent past are ‘hijacking’ it by getting important posts and the recent efforts to replace Parameshwar by a group led by Shamanuru Shivashankarappa.
