Who is Zarina Khan Pathan...

Zarina Khan Pathan, a resident of Al-Amin Society in Juhapura, runs an NGO named Akhil Bhartiya Mahila Adhikar Sangh. The NGO’s office is located in Patthar Kuva area on Relief Road. She also runs a marriage bureau. She has two sons and a daughter.

Zarina has strong connections with people in politics and police. It is said that she enjoys good rapport with a BJP politician and during the corporation’s elections, she was seen campaigning for another BJP politician. She is admired within the Muslim community for her social service. She has strong connections with Muslim politicians and leaders. Apart from support from politicians and policemen, her NGO gets

foreign funds as well.

Sources say she has married multiple times. They add that she had married a Maulvi in 2003-04. However, they got divorced after which she lodged a case under Arms Act against him. She had very good relations with those in the crime branch at that time as well. She is a known name and has a strong hold in areas like Juhapura and Relief Road.

On Monday, she had sought permission from Karanj police station to take out the rally against the anti-Islamic film. The permission was denied and many Muslim leaders, including Mufti Shabbir Alam of Juma Masjid, had advised against the rally. Yet, she went ahead with the rally on Wednesday. Banners were made to protest against the Imam and encourage people to join the rally. Zarina is considered to be the main trigger behind the rally and hence, the riots. Currently, she is in police custody. The police authorities have been mum about Zarina, only revealing that interrogation is on.
