Vetaran Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Ashok Singhal visited Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi at his official residence in Gandhinagar on Sunday.
Sources in the VHP said that Singhal was on a personal visit. However, his meeting with the chief minister is being seen as significant in the light of upcoming assembly elections in the state. “Singhal met the chief minister at his residence in Gandhinagar. It was a personal meeting,” said a source in the VHP.
“If Singhalji was in Gujarat for a VHP programme, we would know about it. However, as it is his personal visit, we don’t know anything,” said the source.
General secretary of VHP (Gujarat) Ranchhod Bharwad was aware that Singhal was in the state on a visit but he didn’t know about his meeting with Modi.
“He had visited Ahmedabad to see Pravin Togadia who has been ailing. Singhal met Togadia during the day,” Bharwad said.
