Assam boat tragedy: Army provides assistance in rescue operations

A team of 12 Army divers were on Tuesday flown to the ferry disaster site in Assam's Dhubri district who were taking part in the search operations together with army engineers and soldiers with rescue equipment.

A team comprising 12 divers of the Army Special Forces have been transported by helicopters to the spot to speed up assistance, an official statement said here.

Two columns of soldiers with rescue equipment and another two columns of Army Engineers in three motor boats and life jackets were assisting in the operation.

In view of the difficult terrain and lack of accessibility to the area, two Army choppers were also at hand to aid in search and rescue.

A joint control room has been established to coordinate rescue efforts. A medical relief camp with three medical teams has been established to provide medical aid.

The Army is also providing food packets to the people in the area. Thousands of locals have gathered at the spot since yesterday evening to help in the rescue efforts.
