Thailand consulate has opened visa application centre here for tourists from Andhra Pradesh who would now no more need to go to Chennai to get their visas processed.
The work of processing of the visa applications has been outsourced to VFS Global, a leading outsourcing firm that offers its services for diplomatic missions and different governments.
"This centre will facilitate travellers from Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh, who can apply for visa from Hyderabad itself to visit Thailand," Consul-General, Royal Thai Consulate (Chennai) Chanchai Charanvatnakit told reporters after inaugurating the centre.
"There is an increase in number of Indians visiting Thailand each year, especially from Southern India for both business and tourism. About 8.5 lakh travellers from India visited Thailand last year. We expect around 50,000 tourists from Hyderabad to visit Bangkok this year," he said.
The Chennai centre was receiving 400-600 applications per day, Charanvatnakit said adding they would be more than happy if they get 200 applications a day from the Hyderabad centre.
VFS Global will be responsible for accepting and processing applications for Thailand visas from applicants residing in Andhra Pradesh. All applications will be assessed by the Royal Thai Consulate General at Chennai.
VFS Global, South Asia, Head (Operations) Vishal Jairath said visa could be received in three days and there was no need for applicants and travel agents from Andhra Pradesh to send their documents to Chennai.
The centre will have longer operating hours, dedicated website, staff dedicated to handle visa queries and a call centre, he said.
