Pro-Telangana students set on fire an RTC bus, a police vehicle and broke windowpanes of at least eight buses today as their protest over the recommendations of Justice Srikrishna Committee continued for the second day at the Osmania University (OU) campus in Hyderabad.
A senior police officer said that students indulged in heavy stone-pelting when they were prevented from holding a rally. Stone-pelting continued at various places throughout the day.
"The protesters hurled stones at police on the campus forcing police to retaliate by lobbing teargas shells....the situation is tense, but under control," deputy commissioner of police (East Zone) Y Gangadhar said.
At least seven students suffered minor injuries in clashes with police while seven others were taken into custody after they burnt down a state transport bus and a police jeep on the OU campus, another police officer said adding the activists also damaged windowpanes of eight buses at Tarnaka.
Telangana Students Joint Action Committee (TSJAC) had given a call for Telangana Bandh today.
Police also detained BJP leader Bandaru Dattatraya and fifty pro-Telangana lawyers as they tried to enter the OU campus.
