In fresh trouble for Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh, a petition was today filed in a local court against him, alleging that his remarks in connection with slain Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare, was an attempt to whip up communal frenzy.
The petition filed in the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) DK Singh has been listed for hearing on January 7.
Advocate Vipin Singh Rathore said that his client Pawan Raghuvanshi has filed the petition against Singh's controversial statement that Karkare's received threats from Hindu 'extremists'.
He said that Raghuvanshi has charged Singh of linking a sensitive issue to a particular religion in a bid to whip up communal frenzy in the country.
The petition sought that a criminal case be registered against the Congress general secretary for his statement.
Singh is in the thick of a storm following his statement that Karkare had spoken to him before he was killed in the 26/11 attacks, about a threat to his life from those opposed to his probe into the Malegaon blasts, in which Hindu extremists were allegedly involved.
