BJP today demanded the resignation of Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi and asked the government to take over the organisation of the sporting event.
"Enough is enough. Now Kalmadi must resign. The government should take over the organisation of the Games," senior BJP leader Ravishankar Prasad told reporters outside Parliament House.
Requesting the Congress to take action, the BJP leader said, "Obviously, the irregularities are too glaring."
CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury also asked Kalmadi to step down, saying the objective of free and fair investigations cannot be carried out if he remains at the helm of affairs.
Congress leader Rajiv Shukla, however, said successful organisation of the Games should be the first priority.
"We are for fair investigations. Nobody is shying away from any investigations. But successful organisation of the Games is very important as very few days are left," Shukla said.
