Auda to add one more ring road in Ahmedabad

Already a city with a considerably expansive road network, Ahmedabad is all set to have yet another of the ring roads that have made its traffic management easier. Town planning officials of the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) are busy chalking out a 300 ft ring road, on the outer periphery of Bopal in the city.

The basic motive behind the ring road is better connectivity to Sanand, and diverting the regional traffic that enters city roads. Keeping that, and the fact of increasing vehicular traffic in mind, the proposed ring road will be at least 300 feet in width.

Auda officials say they are working towards selecting the best available options, in order to provide maximum connectivity via the ring road. "At this point, while we are preparing a draft of the project, we have certain options already in mind. Under the proposed plan, the ring road would begin at around 4 to 5 km from the existing 132 ft ring road," said a senior official from the town planning department.

Officials say the ring road will start at 4 to 5 km from Bopal and provide connectivity to Sanand Road from Bopal. "However, the exact areas that the ring road would pass by cannot be disclosed at this point of time. We are preparing around five alignments and sending them to the state government, when we send the development plan to their urban development department for approval," said an official.

"Vehicles going to Delhi from Rajkot have to go via Ahmedabad at the moment. Currently, they take the 132 ft ring road. Now, as the city limits have expanded, more development is taking place near the existing ring road. The proposed new one would allow commuters to skip this busy 132 ft ring road," said the official.

The Auda's 132 ft ring road is seen as one of the ideal ring road projects in the country. Not just Indian cities, even delegations from foreign countries visit the city to study the model and technicality of land transfer adopted while shaping the ring road project.
