GORAKHPUR (UP): Uttar Pradesh authorities transferred the Shahpur station officer for his alleged laxity in tackling a sex racket case that rocked Gorakhpur last week.
"Bakreedan Ali, Station Officer posted at Shahpur, was found to adopt a lax attitude towards the culprits of a sex and blue film racket that rocked the city last week," SSP Piyush Mordia said, adding that Ali has been sent to police lines.
Eight people have been arrested by the police so far in connection with the racket, the SSP said.
He said Ali did not proper action against Sudhir Saxena, a cable operator and the "main culprit behind making blue films of girls who used to be called at the official residence of G P Srivastava, an NER employee".
Saxena, who arrested by the CO Cantt, Vishwajit Srivastava, on May 23, was released after interrogation, by the Shahpur SO, the SSP said, adding that later investigations proved that Saxena was actively involved in the crime.
Saxena later surrendered before a court. The local court has remanded the NER employee to police custody.
The SSP has also written a letter to the General Manager, North Eastern Railway to sent R K Mehta, Chief Engineer NER, for interrogation. According to police, Mehta "may provide vital clues regarding the case", the sources said.
