CHARLES MANSON

A serial killer and cult leader, Charles who passed away on Sunday after serving life imprisonment sentence, was known for orchestrating several horrific murders in the ’60s. Among his many victims was actress Sharon Tate, the pregnant wife of filmmaker Roman Polanski, who was stabbed by his cult members known as the Manson Family. He used sex, drugs and quotations from the Bible to attract his followers and try to start a racial war of sorts.

JEFFREY DAHMER

Often referred to as the Milwaukee Cannibal, Jeffrey was a serial killer and sex offender, who raped, murdered and dismembered 17 males. He was diagnosed with several personality disorders. His trial received much attention for his testimonies of eating body parts of his victims. In the early 90s, Dahmer was sentenced to 900 years in jail, but was eventually killed by an inmate.

TED BUNDY

One of the most notorious serial killers of the 1970s, Ted’s endless crimes led him to be executed in Florida’s electric chair. The well-educated and charming man went on a murderous spree picking attractive women across the US as his victims. He was also found guilty on rape charges and though he admitted to killing about 36 women, most believe the count was higher. His murder trial became the first to be fully televised.

DR HAROLD SHIPMAN

Responsible for more than 200 murders, Dr Shipman’s crimes only came to light much later when someone noticed that he’d signed off on a number of death certificates. He would also urge the victim’s family to cremate the body so as to leave no evidence. He was later charged with 15 murders and given 15 life sentences for the same. Harold commited suicide in a prison cell.

ED GEIN

Ed gained attention not just for his murderous spree but for exhuming his victim’s bodies and keeping the skin and bones as trophies. He grew up with a controlling mother and post her death his mental health issues began to escalate. Gein is in fact said to be the inspiration behind Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho. He eventually died from liver cancer in a mental hospital.

JACK THE RIPPER

Jack the Ripper created chaos in London in the late 1800s with his crimes. His victims were all female prostitutes whose throat he would slit. He also removed a few internal organs of his victims. Since his identity was never officially revealed, he got the name for his style of killing and for surgically removing organs from the bodies.
