When it comes to celeb romances, buzz about a potential link-up draws extreme reactions. While one camp of fans play cheerleaders rooting for the couple as they are invested in every aspect of their lives, the other camp can’t help but be cynical about a buzzing romance. The latter has gone as far as labelling some couples as fake, here’s a round-up of popular duos whose pairing raised many eyebrows and loads of scepticism.

Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift

Hiddleswift had the paparazzi hot on their tails with their alleged romance. Things got heated up in 2016, with cameras  following this loved-up couple all over the place. What was out of character was an otherwise private person like Hiddleston painting the town red with Taylor on his arm with the world privy to their budding romance. This led to the couple’s relationship being branded a hoax and a publicity stunt.

Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson

R-Patz and K-Stew had fans from across the globe rooting for their Twilight romance both on and offscreen. It seemed like the duo had it in the bag, until intimate photographs surfaced of the actress with her Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders. The couple broke up, got back together in time for the final Twilight movie, only to split shortly after. With the curtains down on the franchise, this much publicised romance too died down with a lot of speculation about how it was all a sham.

Kaley Cuoco and Henry Cavill

Their highly publicised relationship only lasted a few weeks. The fact that Cuoco and Cavill were both represented by the same public relations firm added fuel to speculation that the romance was fake. Following the alleged break-up, Cuoco immediately moved on to tennis pro Ryan Sweeting and married him three months later but that too did not last. Cuoco chalks the whirlwind romances up to her impulsive nature, but there’s reason to believe everything was not as it seemed.

Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian

Before Kim and Kanye became husband and wife, Kim K’s relationship with NBA player K-Hump was in the news. And there was buzz that it was completely staged, from their dating days to his proposal to their 72-day-long marriage. Most found it hard to believe that the duo could go that far for ratings.

Jennifer Lopez and Drake

No one apart from the two really knows what went down here. Drake and Jennifer Lopez’s alleged hookup, reportedly lasted only a few months but still dominated every tabloid headline in Hollywood. The pair did nothing to dispel rumours and only added to speculation with cuddly posts on Instagram.Only later, when Lopez confirmed she was making music with Drake, did people begin to roll their eyes. Lopez continued to play coy through February 2017 when she admitted to “hanging out” with Drake on Ellen. But by March 2017, she had apparently had enough, telling The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah that she was not dating Drake after all. According to People, Lopez was linked to New York Yankees icon Alex Rodriguez the day after the interview aired.

Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron

Fans could not get enough of Zac and Vanessa, and their rumoured romance, which only lasted as long as the High School Musical franchise. No surprises then, that sceptics labelled it a fake romance, as it all appeared to be too convenient.
