From filmmaker Steven Spielberg comes the action-adventure Ready Player One, based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller of the same name, which has become a worldwide phenomenon.
The movie had its world premiere at South by Southwest film, media, and music conference in Austin, Texas.
The premiere had a glitch when the sound went out during an important scene towards the end of the movie. A few seconds later, the screen froze up, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
That was enough to send Spielberg into panic mode. "That was probably the greatest anxiety attack I've ever had," the director said.
Despite the snag, the film received a standing ovation from the crowd. And the race to put up the Twitter reactions began. Here's what the people who attended the screening had to say.
If this doesn’t answer whether people loved #ReadyPlayerOne, I don’t know what will. pic.twitter.com/2uXGYCAck7

Spielberg just said he makes many films, like The Post, from behind the camera. He made Ready Player One from the audience. That’s the perfect summation of this experience.

I don’t know if I have ever seen a #SXSW crowd cheer on a movie the way they just cheered on #ReadyPlayerOne. We haven’t seen this Spielberg in a long time - it’s just pure entertainment and it’s hard not to watch it without a dorky smile on your face the whole time

TOTALLY engrossed in every second of @readyplayerone. It is one of the most technically brilliant things I have EVER seen. Spielberg is one of the few directors who could orchestrate this kind of visual symphony that SO many people will enjoy. Pretty amazing.

#ReadyPlayerOne is classic Steven Spielberg. It’s got the references, the ferocious effects and the great ‘80s soundtrack, sure, but also the charm, the heart, the humor and a fantastic Alan Silvestri score. I loved it & so did this #SXSW crowd. Be excited for it! pic.twitter.com/xwPOGwXDxd

I adore it.#sxsw
READY PLAYER ONE feels like Spielberg watched a ton of Luc Besson movies and decided to outdo them. In terms of pure spectacle, it’s the most astonishing thing he’s done. Never underestimate Steve. #SXSW

Early responses are always generous and have hyped reactions. But overall vibe for the March 30 release of Ready Player One looks favourable.
The movie, just like the book, is crammed with pop culture references from the '80s onward. This is the first time since 2005's War of the Worlds, Spielberg has returned to the pure sci-fi genre.
Here's the official synopsis of Ready Player One
In the year 2045, the real world is a harsh place. The only time Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) truly feels alive is when he escapes to the OASIS, an immersive virtual universe where most of humanity spends their days. In the OASIS, you can go anywhere, do anything, be anyone—the only limits are your own imagination. The OASIS was created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance), who left his immense fortune and total control of the Oasis to the winner of a three-part contest he designed to find a worthy heir. When Wade conquers the first challenge of the reality-bending treasure hunt, he and his friends—called the High Five—are hurled into a fantastical universe of discovery and danger to save the OASIS and their world.
Apart from Sheridan and Rylance, Ready Player One also stars Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Lena Waithe, TJ Miller, Philip Zhao, Win Morisaki, Hannah John-Kamen, with Simon Pegg.
Spielberg has relied on his trusted collaborators to make his crew for the movie. Director of photography Janusz Kaminski, Production designer Adam Stockhausen, Editor Michael Kahn Sarah Broshar, Costume designer Kasia Walicka Maimone, and composer Alan Silvestri are all part of the movie.
