It’s a challenge that every actor worth his/her salt loves, to do a biopic or essay a famous person on reel. Not only getting into the skin of the character but also undergoing an incredible makeover and transforming into their character. And some have risen beyond belief to put this challenge to the test and have come out victorious with the resemblance. Whether it’s piling on the pounds, wearing a wig, going bald, wearing prosthetics and some serious amount of make-up, they’ve done to perfect the look. We made a list of upcoming movies featuring incredible makeovers to play some famous persons.

Rene Zellweger playing Judy Garland

In the past few years, Rene Zellweger has received flak from the media for her changing appearance due to cosmetic enhancements which left her looking different and unflattering from her original appearance. But here’s a change of appearance that got people talking in appreciation. Zellweger’s upcoming film Judy, has her playing the late Hollywood actress and singer, Judy Garland. The first look of the biographical musical-drama shows the striking resemblance between The Bridget Jones series actress and the legend. The movie is slated to release this year.

Tom Hardy playing Al Capone

In his upcoming film, Fonzo, a biopic based on Al Capone, has the handsome actor essaying the notorious American mobster. Last month, Tom Hardy gave a sneak peak of his most dramatic makeover till date for a movie, by uploading his picture on Instagram. The Dunkirk actor had to incorporate some serious make-up to portray Scarface aka Capone. Recently, Hardy went bald for the role. Who can believe this makeover? Your guess is as good as ours.

Margot Robbie playing Queen Elizabeth I

Robbie underwent a dramatic physical transformation, on the set of her historical film Mary Queen of Scots, wherein she essays Queen Elizabeth I. The gorgeous actress sports a balding head dotted with fiery tresses and a pockmarked blotchy complexion and porcelain skin, besides wearing elaborate costumes to play the queen. The movie is slated for release this December. The Virgin Queen has also been previously portrayed by Judie Dench, Bette Davis, Helen Mirren, Cate Blanchett and Miranda Richardson but still, we’re waiting to see what Margot brings to the table.

...and when she played Tonya Harding

The pretty actress gained critical acclaim for her performance and received nominations for the Academy Award, Golden Globe, SAG, and BAFTA Award for Best Actress, for her portrayal of the disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding in the biographical film I, Tonya (2017). First and foremost, Robbie had to undergo vigorous ice skating training, voice coaching to sound like the professional ice skater, wearing prosthetics, ice skating in a fat suit and undergoing hair treatment to get that ’80s look for her character.

Gary Oldman played Winston Churchill

This year, actor Gary Oldman won the Golden Globe Best Actor — Motion Picture Drama category, for his performance as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour (2017). All the hard work that went in nailing the look certainly paid off. Transforming into the former British prime minister took 200 hours of make-up work. Speaking of his role, Oldman said he “carried around half my body weight” in prosthetics to look more like the heavier Churchill. The world was shocked to see how uncanny the resemblance was. This was all due to a phenomenal make-up job and thankfully, the actor didn’t have to go bald or pile on the pounds.

Natalie Portman played Jackie Kennedy

The Black Swan star had to undergo some amount of serious preparation to play the real-life icon in Jackie (2016). Because the film takes place around the 1963 assassination of JFK, the filmmakers had to capture a specific place and time in Jackie’s life, look and mental state. Natalie underwent dialect coaching, and diction to get her manner of talking to mimic that of the former First Lady. Also, Jackie Kennedy was known for having perfect eyebrows, iconic bouffant hairstyle, dressing style which Natalie had to mirror. “The assassination scene was definitely the hardest,” Portman said of getting into Jackie’s emotionally distraught headspace following the death of her husband.
