'Captain Marvel' box office report: Brie Larson's movie gets second biggest opening for Hollywood film in India

Brie Larson's Captain Marvel has made a big splash at the Indian box office. On its opening day, the first female-led superhero movie from Marvel Studios minted Rs 15.18 crore gross.

According to a report by Box Office India, the movie made Rs 13 crore nett, making it the second highest ever opening for a Hollywood release in India.

Captain Marvel released to 1900 screens across 1450 locations in India. Dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, the movie's box office collection is expected to pick up based on word of mouth publicity over the weekend.

Another big release of the week is Amitabh Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu's thriller Badla. According to Box Office India report, on day one, the movie collected Rs 5 crore nett. Directed by Sujoy Ghosh, the movie is expected to better over the weekend and gain momentum in metros like Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, and New Delhi.

DNA film critic Rucha Sharma said Brie Larson as Captain Marvel is amazing from the get-go. She wrote, "This is Larson's story to shine. She has your complete attention no matter who she is sharing the frame with. Her chemistry with Lashana Lynch, Carol Danvers' friend from the Air Force, is impeccable. The cast of the movie works together to prop up Captain Marvel."

She added, "Goose the cat deserves separate mention because of some adorable moments with Jackson and a whole lot of incredible situations in the climax scenes!"
