This is the third time Michael B Jordan has collaborated with director Ryan Coogler.
Michael B Jordan was part of Marvel movies before rest of the Black Panther cast. He played the Human Torch in Fox's disappointing reboot of Fantastic Four comics.
For the second stint, this time with Kevin Feige's Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jordan comes out spear wielding to play the supervillain in the smash hit that is Black Panther.
Jordan plays Erik Killmonger to Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa/Black Panther. In every scene, of which Jordan is part of, it gets very difficult to focus on anything else in that particular frame. Such is the presence.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jordan revealed what made him take up the role. Calling a 'dope' gig, Jordan said that one can have little more fun with the character when it's of an antagonist.
"Being the protagonist usually means being morally correct and being pained with making good decisions all the time. When you’re an antagonist, you can blur those lines and be a little less on-point, morally. There are less boundaries, you know what I’m saying? You can be a little loose and have a little more fun. It’s dope," said Jordan.
This is Jordan's third film with director Ryan Coogler. The duo started with indie movie Fruitvale Station. Then followed Rocky franchise reboot with Creed in which Jordan plays Adonis Creed. These two movies are now followed by Black Panther. And looking back at their journey together, Jordan said that he is nothing but proud of Coogler.
"We started in the trenches together. We started out working an independent film that we weren’t sure was going to work. It ended up doing what it did at Sundance and Cannes, so we raised the bar and did Creed. Now we raised the bar again for this film," said Jordan.
Critically acclaimed, Black Panther is tracking to collect more than $200 million at the global box office in its first weekend in the theatres.
