They may be talented, good looking and have a vast fortune at their disposal, but celebrities too have faced depression. While some have it along with other mental health issues such as anxiety or bipolar disorder, others underwent it after going through a stressful situation.

Jim Carrey
The actor is known for his comical timing, but Jim Carrey recently admitted that he has dealt with depression during his career prime. In an interview for i, the 55-year-old star said, “At this point, I don’t have depression. There is not an experience of depression. I had that for years, but now, when the rain comes, it rains, but it doesn’t stay. It doesn’t stay long enough to immerse me and drown me anymore.”

Jon Hamm
Jon has openly admitted to seeing a therapist to help him through various issues including depression, alcohol addiction and grief. In his 20s, he underwent depression following his father’s death and revealed that he had relied on anti-depressants. He had told The Guardian in 2010, “Therapy... gives you another perspective when you are so lost in your own spiral… it helps. I want to get up in the morning; I don’t want to sleep till four in the afternoon.”

Ashley Judd
A few years ago, in her memoir All That Is Bitter and Sweet, Ashley spoke in depth about depression that could’ve been due to an abusive childhood. In 2006, she had spent 40 days in a rehab clinic. Later, the actress said on a TV show interview, “I was absolutely certifiably crazy and now I get to have a solution, and for those who are co-dependent or suffer from depression, there is a solution.”

Owen Wilson
When the actor and producer attempted suicide back in 2007, most fans were shocked. His brother found him after he had overdosed on pills and had also slit his wrist. Depression and overdrinking was said to be the cause. Some even blamed his split from then girlfriend Kate Hudson. The actor underwent treatment and with the help of family and friends got back to his regular life.

Demi Lovato
Demi has been very vocal about her mental health issues. In 2010, she checked into a treatment facility where she realised she had anorexia, bulimia, and bipolar disorder. In her recent documentary she spoke about her past drug abuse and issues with depression. She told a magazine, “I feel like I am in control now, where for my whole life, I wasn’t in control.”

Catherine Zeta-Jones
A few years ago, Catherine opened up about suffering from Bipolar disorder and admitted that she went through a lot of low phases because of it. She checked into a US rehab clinic too. “I hope fellow sufferers will know it is completely controllable. I hope I can help remove any stigma attached to it, and that those who don’t have it under control will seek help with all that is available to treat it,” she had said.
