Medical negligence case: ‘Hope after PC Singhi win’

The conviction of Dr Praful B Desai in a medical negligence case has given a ray of hope to the father of a three-and-a-half-year-old Sankalp Londhe, who was allegedly paralysed after a surgery to correct a heart ailment, at Nanavati hospital, Vile Parle.

Londhe, a resident of Worli, will now submit a complaint to the Maharashtra Medical Council, the state governing body that investigates cases of medical negligence, next week. He has been fighting the case since three years.

Six months ago, Londhe had written to chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, threatening that if he does not get justice by January 26, he will commit suicide. But nothing happened, and he was directed to the health department to file a fresh application over this issue.

A fortnight ago, he got a reply from the health department asking him to file a complaint against the doctor to the MMC.
