Hinduja opens boutique hospital in Mumbai

Hinduja Group’s new boutique hospital at Khar, Hinduja Healthcare, is an exclusive 100-bed multispeciality hospital with chrome fittings, marble floors and LCD TV-equipped rooms. In short, it has all the trappings of a five-star hotel.

It also houses all the departments of a multispeciality hospital, including a gynaecology and obstetrician department — the PD Hinduja Hospital at Mahim does not have one — five operation theatres, an OPD, cardiology, radiology, Cath-lab and haematology departments as well a 26-bed ICU.

This entire enterprise has cost the Hinduja Group around Rs100 crore, which is Rs85-95 lakh per bed.

This boutique hospital represents the group’s foray into for-profit healthcare.

“Our Mahim hospital is a non-profit establishment. This one is clearly for profit. We did market research and found that there were many high-net worth individuals who wanted exclusivity when it came to their healthcare needs and they were going abroad to satisfy those needs. So, we came up with this concept,” said Ashok Hinduja, executive chairman of the Hinduja Ventures Ltd.

Twin-sharing rooms are available at the hospital for Rs4,000 a night. A single deluxe room costs Rs6,000 a night and a deluxe suite costs Rs10,000 per night.
