According to the National Kidney Foundation (US), chronic kidney disease includes conditions that damage your kidneys and decrease their ability to keep you healthy.

If the condition gets worse, high levels of waste can build up in your blood. This can cause a vast number of complications like weak bones, nerve damage and anaemia. These issues can develop over a long period of time and can happen at any age.

Diabetes and high blood pressure are some of the contributing factors of chronic kidney disease.

In order to combat this disease it is vital to detect the problem early and treat it before it leads to kidney failure, requiring transplant to survive.

The World Kidney Day website has put together eight simple rules, everyone can do.
