Seven properties owned by underworld don Dawood Ibrahim in Mumbai's Nagpada area will be attached according to the provisions under Smugglers And Foreign Exchange Manipulators Forfeiture Of Property) Act (SAFEMA). The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a plea filed by Ibrahim's mother and sister Amina Bi Kaskar and Haseena Parker (both now deceased) challenging the attachment.

A bench of justices R K Agrawal and A M Sapre dismissed the plea saying the properties belonged to Ibrahim. The fugitive don's mother and sister had a total of seven residential properties – worth crores of rupees, in their names which was allegedly bought using the ill-gained wealth.

Ibrahim's kin had moved the top court challenging the Delhi High Court order, which had turned down their plea against the order for seizure of their properties in Mumbai under SAFEMA.

The Act allows properties belonging to smugglers and foreign exchange manipulators and their relatives that are "illegally acquired."

Details of the judgment are unclear since the top court website was down following twin attacks of hacking on Thursday.
