World Heart Day is celebrated around the globe to highlight the fact that heart disease and stroke are the world's leading causes of death and claim millions of lives each year.

Although the human heart is only the size of a fist, it is the strongest and the most crucial muscle in the body. But, heart attacks can be prevented and immediate medical help can ensure cure. 

"Having a healthy diet and sufficient physical activity will help lower your risk of heart attacks and strokes as it helps your body to burn sugars and fats and assists in maintaining your weight, but along with this proper medication is also essential," says Dr Swati Gadgil, chief medical officer, AIMS Hospital, Dombivli.

Residents of Dombivli, Kalyan and areas in the vicinity, since the last eight years have been getting some of the best medical facilities at this 100-bed super speciality hospital, Asian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) situated in Dombivli.

Well known for its cardiology department, it has a state-of-the-art cardiac surgery department, which has been instrumental in performing bypass and valve replacement surgeries. Also, an advanced Cath Lab facility with full-time cardiologists is available for immediate medical help. They also have a capable emergency service and a mortuary facility, which is very rare in private hospitals.

AIMS ensures that they are on the panel of various government schemes, private and insurance companies as well. "We want our patients to be able to get some of the best facilities and so we leave no stone unturned to be updated with the latest schemes, so that they can avail those and feel satisfied with our services. We have 19 super speciality facilities mainly cardiology, cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, chest medicine, bronchoscopy, thoracoscopy and endoscopic spine surgery as well. We are the only hospital in this part of the city that provides such medical services," says Dr Gadgil.

"We have a full-time consultant neurosurgeon and endoscopic spine surgeon Dr J Srinivas and interventional radiologist, Dr Amol Bhalekar. We have a special nephrology, dialysis centre and neurology department as well. Our rheumatology department has Dr Raheesh Ravindran as a full-time consultant," adds Dr Gadgil.

Apart from all this, the hospital also has other speciality services like dentistry, psychiatry, pathology, radiology, gastroenterology, diabetology, ENT, paediatric, neonatology, general surgery, ophthalmology, gynaecology and obstetrics.

Their oncology department is also popular, with a linear accelerator radiation facility for cancer patients.
