At least seven women fell ill after undergoing sterilisation surgery at government health camps in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur district, prompting Chief Minister Raman Singh to order a probe into the matter.

Eleven women had underwent surgery at sterilisation camps held in Koni and Lavar villages under Masturi development block on August 2 and 5 respectively, Bilaspur Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) BB Bode said today.

Masturi block is located around 25 kms from Bilaspur headquarter.

Four days after the operation, around seven of them complained of pain and uneasiness following which their examination was done at Masturi community health centre (CHC).

Subsequently, three women Rajni (27), Pushpa (28) and Yashoda were admitted at the CHC and others were discharged, the CMHO said.

Today, a team of doctors led by CMHO went to the villages and visited the house of women who had complained of pain.

The women informed the health team that they had developed pain and infection after the surgery, he said.

Of the seven women, six - Rajni, Pushpa, Islekha (25), Ashwani (24), Rukhmani (25) and Gauri (27) were today shifted to Bilaspur district hospital for a complete medical examination.

After they were found normal, the women were discharged and sent back to their homes, he said.

However, Yashoda was still kept under observation at CHC Masturi after performing another surgery as she had developed infection, the CMHO said, adding, "her condition was also out of danger."

Meanwhile, a senior health official informed that taking serious cognizance of the matter, chief minister Raman Singh has ordered a probe in the matter.
