Whether you are a first-timer or a pro, there are some things that are imperative to your run. No runner should step out on the road without these gears. Running is a sport that does not encompass a team, but is about an individual. And the one-man (or woman) army should always be ready to fight it out.

Sunglasses
A good pair of sunglasses can keep the scorching sun off your face and allows you to relax your face. Though such glasses are for sunny days, it is also useful on bright, winter mornings, or any other time, when the glare can be a distraction.

Sports bra
For women, a sports bra is a ‘must-have’ for running. Wearing the right bra can boost one’s confidence and how!

Water bottle
Bottles and sippers are essential. With a sipper in hand, there’s no excuse why a runner should be dehydrated.

Heart rate monitor
A heart rate monitor informs you how your heart is holding up during a run. It is important for an athlete/regular runner to assess his/her heart rate during a run.

Reflective gear
While on a late-night run, it is important that you protect yourself. For this, use reflective gears; bands to be attached to the wrist or safety vest that can be worn. This also allows people on the road to see you in low-light conditions.

Stopwatch
This vital piece of equipment allows runners to time themselves, helping them to know if they are getting better over time.

Shorts
The basic element of any runner’s wardrobe are made up of a pair of shorts; nylon or technical fabric. Briefs or underwear are optional; some runners use them, some don’t. Try and avoid cotton.

Running shoes
Choose a pair of trainers with cushioning and stability that are appropriate for your bio-mechanics. If the weather permits, go barefoot. Don’t forget to put on a good pair of moisture-wicking socks as it can help prevent blisters.
