Novel treatment for anal fistula

A pune-based surgeon and proctologist Dr Ashwin Porwal, founder of Healing Hands Clinic, has devised his own technique — DLPL, for curing anal fistulas. Notorious for being arduous to treat with a tendency to recur, a fistula patient’s story is one of frequent hospital visits, switching doctors and laborious wound care, all in vain. 

Dr Porwal’s Distal Laser Proximal Ligation (DLPL) technique received a positive feedback from the national and international surgical community at the annual WorldCon ’17, where he presented a paper on the same.

Having gained a vast experience in treating fistulas, Dr Porwal said, “We get a large number of cases where patients have been suffering for years or have tried getting treatment from quacks who claim cure. This only worsens the problem and I would definitely advise them to steer clear of such unscientific methods.”

He added, “At Healing Hands Clinic, we introduced Leonardo Laser, the first of its kind in India for Fistula Laser Closure (FiLaC). In fact, after an in depth study of this disorder, understanding it’s nature, the complications associated with it and its tendency to recur, I was able to devise my own technique that combines laser with surgery- DLPL. This binary approach ensures an excellent cure with no risk of injury to the sphincter, thus avoiding chances of incontinence.”
