Meet 20-year-old YouTube sensation Rebecca Brown who has been creating online awareness about trichotillomania

At 20, Rebecca Brown has made a huge name for herself online with her chronicle videos of YouTube which show how her rare condition has made her go bald.

In a simple exercise where she recorded pictures of herself every day for five years that showed how her appearance changed thanks to trichotillomania which she suffers from.

Trichotillomania is a rare disorder that causes people to pull out their own hair. This condition saw brown start pulling her hair out at the age of 12 and by the time she was 16 she was nearly bald.

At 19, when she had no more hair left, she was forced to shave off her hair and go bald.

On her YouTube channel called Becca, Rebecca Brown has her life recorded showing how her disorder affected her life over the last five years.

From 15 minute videos to 2 minute videos Brown's life has been viewed my many who were made aware of this rare condition.

The good news is that in the last one year, Brown's hair has started to grow back as her condition has improved.

Dr Shobha Pal, a psychiatrist based in Mumbai said, "With not much information and lack of awareness about this disorder, trichotillomania has been a disease that patients silently suffer with many people thinking that the patients are either cancer patients or if they observe their behaviour closely think they are mad."

With Brown using social media as a platform to publicise the disease and create awareness, slowly and surely trichotillomania has started to become a disorder more people are aware of and understand.
