Nicotine present in tobacco is a long term addiction for a person who smokes or chews tobacco. It gives a pleasure of high energy which in turn makes one an addict. Nicotine goes into the bloodstream and then reaches your brain. This whole cycle makes one a slave of tobacco. It also harms your body organs in many ways. Chewing tobacco is also known as smokeless tobacco. 

There are many health ill-effects of tobacco smoking and chewing:
First bad effect is that it (nicotine in tobacco) makes you an addict.
Brain: Nicotine acts on the brain very quickly. After smoking you feel anxious, nervous and moody. This makes you smoke again as the effect of smoke lasts for a small span of time. It causes headache and dizziness.

Tooth: Smoking causes tooth decay, tooth loss and bad breath.

Bones: Smoking tobacco is one of the factors for decreased bone density which can cause osteoporosis. It may cause fractures. Smoking lowers the hormone ‘estrogen’ level in the body which may be a cause for early menopause in women. 

Cardiovascular system: Smoking or chewing tobacco increases your heart rate and blood pressure as the blood vessels become thick and narrow, making one prone to strokes, heart attacks and other heart conditions. Also, risk for atherosclerosis and forming of blood clots. Even non-smokers exposed to smoke are at a risk of getting stroke and heart diseases.

Respiratory system: Smoke contains harmful chemicals enter the lungs and get trapped there over a period of time causing respiratory infections and reduced lung function. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are lung diseases caused by smoking. Wheezing and coughing are the symptoms noticed in lung infections. Also, in asthmatic people, tobacco smoke can trigger an attack and may worsen the condition. 

Cancer: Tobacco contains harmful chemicals which causes cancer of: lungs, lip, bronchus, oral cavity, trachea, liver, kidney, pancreas, uterine cervix, bladder, nasal cavity, stomach, esophagus, larynx, colon and rectum. 

Diabetes: Smoking tobacco has an effect on the insulin, which develops insulin resistance. This puts smokers at a risk of getting type 2 diabetes. 

Skin: Whenever you are not well, it shows on your face and your skin becomes dull. Same goes for smoking. It makes your skin dull, causes premature ageing, wrinkles and skin discoloration is seen. Yellow stains are seen on the fingernails and skin on the fingers. Yellow or brown stains are seen on the teeth of smokers.

Reproductive system: Both men and women are at a risk of facing infertility problems due to smoking. Restricted blood flow can affect men to have erectile problems. Women may experience early menopause. Cervical cancer risk is present in women who smoke, and they may have pregnancy problems, premature delivery, placenta problems and also miscarriages.
