It is a happy day for Sukla Kunar, a 61-year-old patient from Shealda in Kolkata. Kunar has finally got rid of pain in her left knee for many years, due to surgery carried out by Orthopedic Surgeons at Fortis Bone and Joint Institute in Gurgaon. The hospital has claimed Kunar’s surgery is North India’s first robotic joint replacement surgery.

“I have been living with this painful knee for close to five years since I was always fearful of surgery. Two months ago the pain became so unbearable that I had no other option but to look out for surgery,” she said smiling. The knee surgery, which happened on Thursday, helps the surgeon to fix only the damaged joint to absolute perfection, saving all the other normal structures of the joint.

“Robot-assisted joint replacement surgery offers the patient a huge advantage of immediate recovery, same or next day discharge and minimal blood loss,” said doctor Ashok Rajgopal.
