In a bid to go digital, the east Municipal Corporation inaugurated an online portal to issue health trade licenses on Thursday. This would mean that owners of salons and restaurants, among others, would find it easier to get a health trade license.
According to the Health Department, the process of procuring a license for businesses serving food, such as hotels and cafes, takes about 50-60 days. It is all set to get hassle-free now, with the launch of the online application system.
“This system allows the applicant to get health trade license in a speedier and transparent manner. It is a step in the direction of a Digital India and Good Governance programme, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” said Satya Sharma, Mayor, east Corporation.
To apply online, a proof of legal occupancy, a copy of a photo identity card, a copy of the site plan of the premises, a copy of the PAN/VAT/TIN card and a proof of a water connection are supposed to be uploaded on the civic body’s portal.
The license fee can be paid online, either through credit or debit card, or netbanking.
“From now onwards, only four to five documents need to be uploaded to seek health trade license. The license would be available to the applicant instantly and fees for it can be paid making a cashless transaction,” said a senior official.
The move is expected to generate revenue of about Rs 2-3 crore annually, and the number of licenses issued is likely to double up, he added.
He informed that in some time, the process of issuing general trade license would also be made online. He said that it would reduce delay and end corruption. Nearly 100 types of health trade licenses would be issued under the process.
