CS reviews infant death prevention measures in tribal areas

The Maharashtra government today asked officials to take steps to prevent death of infants in tribal areas and also measures to curb monsoon-related diseases.

Chief Secretary Sumit Mullick chaired a meeting of officials to review the ongoing measures to prevent death of infants in tribal areas.

He directed the health, women and child development and tribal departments coordinate to coordinate for effective implementation of schemes related to tribal welfare, an official release said here.

The authorities should take necessary precautions for preventing monsoon-related diseases in tribal and inaccessible areas, Mullick said.

"The government is constantly making efforts for prevention of infant mortality and malnutrition. There will be noticeable results if there is effective implementation of schemes through coordination between different departments and district administration."

Create a roadmap to provide treatment and nutrition to the malnourished children through the Rural Development Committee, he told authorities.

Mullick said anganwadis (child care centres) should make available medicines for diarrhoea, fever and cough.

He also directed that anganwadi workers be paid their salaries on time.

The Chief Secretary said the health department should ensure adequate supply of medicines in the remote areas.
