The purpose of the review, conducted by researchers from Imperial College London, Arthritis Research UK and the University of Aberdeen, was to synthesize existing data in order to estimate what percentage of people suffer from chronic pain in the UK. Data was used from 19 studies that included almost 140,000 adults.

Unsurprisingly, research showed that chronic pain was at its most prevalent in people over 75 (62%) but could also be up to 30% among 18-39 year olds.

The study warns that chronic pain could be even more of an issue in the future, given the UK's aging population.
