When you have the true will to achieve something, you are bound to succeed, as Chris Thomas, a 24-year-old entrepreneur from the city has proved by walking a stretch of 350 km from Bangalore to Chennai within a period of seven days. Back in the comfort of his home, Chris cherishes memories of his walk.

“This walk was a medium of expression for a concept that I have named aerobicsoul.com. The idea is that the four aspects of health—physical, physiological, psychological and intellectual should be taken care of along with proper diet and nutrition,” he says. Launched in January, Chris’s website provides free information about all aspects of health from the experts.

Recalling his road map, he says, “It is one straight road from Hosur to Krishnagiri. From there, you need to take a left and walk straight to hit the entrance to Chennai.” Once there, he drove down to a family friend’s house on Thursday evening. The next morning, he flew home to Bangalore. He was not accompanied by any medical aides, the only presence from the medical field being that of Dr Devi Shetty, chairman, Narayana Hrudayalaya who flagged off the walkathon. Chris carried a first-aid box and had a group of four people accompanying him to record the walk on video. “I was walking in the opposite direction to the traffic so that I could see approaching vehicles, but they followed me in a vehicle,” he says.

For the last seven days, Chris has been walking from 6 am to 6 pm, halting every two hours for lunch and to freshen up. He spent the nights at hotels on the way. “All through my journey, I spotted many pockets of colonisation amidst nature, where life is silent after dusk,” he observes.

At 120 kg, Chris clearly is obese. While he lost around 4 kg  during the walkathon, he clarifies that the walk wasn’t to lose weight but to inspire the youth to take care of their health.
“India has the largest number of English speaking youngsters who can take on the globe. But if their health is not taken care of, this will be a wasted opportunity,” he warns.

The walk from Bangalore to Chennai is just the beginning for Chris as he plans to walk across various cities of the world in an effort to spread his message of good health.

Next in the pipeline is a walk from Agra to Delhi in February. This will be followed by a walk through the entire stretch of Hong Kong — a city he frequents on business —  sometime in the middle of this year.
