Central Government issues separate COVID-19 guidelines for children - details here

Due to the second wave of COVID-19 in the country, the situation is constantly getting worse. This time the infection is also being seen in children. In the midst of all this, the government has issued COVID-19 guidelines for children for the first time. Efforts are also being made in these guidelines to reduce the pressure on hospitals.

People have been appealed to go to the hospital only if it is very urgent. In the new guideline, oxygen level (oxygen level) has been changed with respect to home isolation. Now the N-95 mask has been made mandatory. Let us know what is the new guideline.

In the new guideline issued by the Central government, separate guidelines have been issued for children in the protocol. There is no suggestion of any treatment for asymptomatic children, however, they are asked to monitor possible symptoms. Two separate documents have been issued by the Health Ministry. One of these is the revised guidelines for home isolation and management protocol for the pediatric age group.

Guidelines issued for children

Children who have mild symptoms such as a sore throat, running nose, cough with shortness of breath, gastrointestinal problems in some children. According to the guidelines, no testing has been recommended for such children. Such children can be treated by keeping them in home isolation.

As per the guidelines, for the treatment of children who have symptoms of COVID-19, paracetamol (10-15 mg/kg/dose) can be given to them after consultation with a doctor. It can be repeated every 4 to 6 hours.

It is advised to gargle with warm water if you have a cough.

To see that the children do not have a water shortage in the body, ORS solution is recommended along with giving nutritious foods.

Children with mild symptoms are advised not to give antibiotics.

If the oxygen saturation level is above 90%, then it is included in the Moderate category. Pneumonia can occur in children with mild symptoms.

However, routine lab tests are not recommended for such children unless they show severe symptoms.

Children with moderate symptoms are said to be admitted to Kovid Dedicated Health Center or Secondary Level Health Care Facility.

Paracetamol (10-15 mg/kg/dose) for fever may be given to children with moderate COVID-19, amoxicillin in case of bacterial infection.

Oxygen supplementation may be required if oxygen saturation is less than 94%.

The oxygen level has been reduced from 95 to 94 for home isolation.

An N-95 mask will be mandatory for the caretaker of the corona patient.

Patients with cancer and transplants will be able to live in home isolation.

The caretaker of the corona patient will have to make a four-hour monitoring chart.

This includes temperature, heart rate (from pulse oximeter), SpO2 percentages, feeling (as before, better, worse).
