A team from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to visit Paris to attend a World Health Organisation (WHO) conference that will help control tuberculosis better in Mumbai.

The team includes the corporation’s executive health officer and doctors associated with tuberculosis management programme.

“We have received an invite from WHO and have decided to attend the conference next month. We are yet to get a confirmation on the dates,” said an officer in the BMC’s health department.

“TB experts from across the world will be attending this programme,” he said.

“We are looking forward to it as a platform to share and learn information on measures to control TB. We will be giving a presentation on the measure the corporation took after the drug-resistant tuberculosis scare broke out in January 2012,” added the officer from the health department.

WHO, in its latest report on tuberculosis (TB), has stated that India needs to speed up its capacity for diagnosis and treatment of patients, especially those suffering from multi-drug resistant (MDR) tuberculosis.
