Akshay Kumar promotes a healthy living campaign

Rajkumar Hirani – the maker of blockbuster movies like the Munnabhai series and Three Idiots has been given the responsibility of ensuring that healthy living becomes a top priority for audiences. As a part of a campaign by Mumbai's civic body in association with the Bhamla Foundation, the film-maker has produced a 4-minute short film starring Akshay Kumar has asks the common man to follow five simple steps to be healthy.

The short film has Akshay Kumar talking directly to the audience and listing down five small steps for a healthy lifestyle with non-communicable disease or NCD becoming a major cause of concern.

India has an estimated number of 69.2 million diabetics in 2015 as per the International Diabetes Federation. NCDs including heart disease are killing roughly 5.8 million Indians annually.

"We are in denial mode about diabetes and hypertension. We need to wake up to the silent killers and fight against the condition," said Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He added, "Prevention is important and awareness can play a huge role in this."

Those behind the campaign hope that Akshay Kumar's mass appeal will help grab eyeballs for the health campaign.

The star known for his push for martial arts and exercise said, "My health tip for everyone is to eat dinner by 6.30 and not after that."

Say no to deep fried food
Include 50% vegetables in every meal
