The kiwi or kiwifruit was introduced to India only about a decade ago. This bright green fruit, spotted with its black edible seed, offers several benefits.
Medicinal uses:
The most abundantly found nutrient in kiwis is vitamin C. This vitamin neutralises free radicals, thus preventing cardiovascular problems. Vitamin C is also beneficial for eye health, especially to prevent cataracts. Its antioxidant properties also help prevent diseases such as cancer, diabetes and asthma.
The kiwifruit contains reasonable amounts of vitamin A as well. Vitamin A is excellent for eye health and is an anti-oxidant.
Kiwi, also has large amounts of fiber that prevents constipation. The fiber also helps regulate blood sugar.
In addition, research has proved that kiwi also contains moderate quantities of vitamin E, phosphorus, potassium, copper and magnesium. It is also known that kiwi, and its citrus content, is effective for respiratory health problems.
Culinary uses:
The kiwifruit is generally eaten plain, its skin is edible.
You could also make a juice, or simply combine it with any other fruit to make a smoothie as per your taste.
A kiwi could also be added to a fruit salad to give it an exotic twist.
Kiwis are rarely heated.
