Samsung in an extravagant event on Wednesday launched its flagship phone, Galaxy Note 8 in New York. With the latest launch, the South Korean firm aims to take on the iPhone 8, which is expected to be revealed in September or October.

Samsung is betting big with the Galaxy Note 8 especially after the Note 7 debacle. The firm would be keen to rebuild the Note brand with its fresh addition to the legacy as this has been its strongest weapon to take down the competition.

Let's take a look at what makes Galaxy Note 8 tick:

Specifications:

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has been the biggest Samsung phone ever, with a massive 6.3-inch QuadHD+ AMOLED Infinity Display of resolution 1440x2960.

It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC along with 6GB of RAM. In India, we can expect the 64-bit Exynos 8895 variant, which would include 64GB of internal storage that could be further expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card slot.

Connectivity features include 4G with VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and GPS. Running Android 7.1.1 Nougat with TouchWiz UX on top, the smartphone is expected to receive the Android Oreo update soon. A 3,300mAh battery completes the package.

The device supports wireless charging, a feature that the upcoming iPhone 8 is rumoured to feature as well.

Note 8 also has a fingerprint scanner and iris scanner for biometric authentication.

Camera:

This is the first Samsung flagship smartphone to sport dual-rear cameras. The new Galaxy Note 8 comes equipped with a dual-camera setup, out of which one is a 12MP wide-angle lens of aperture f/1.7, while the other is a 12MP telephoto lens of aperture f/2.4. It also includes an 8MP front-facing camera with optical image stabilisation.

How to buy?

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 would be available in Midnight Black, Maple Gold, Orchid Grey, and Deep Sea Blue colours. It would be available for pre-orders in selected markets starting today, however, the shipping would only be commenced on September 15.

Samsung is also reportedly offering Galaxy Note 7 customers attractive discounts in order to encourage them to buy the Note 8.

Price:

In US, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 base variant is priced between $930 (roughly Rs. 59,500) on AT&T and $960 on (roughly Rs. 61,500) on Verizon.

However, in India, rumours suggest that the device would be an Amazon India exclusive.
