This photograph of the Bollywood actress Rekha was taken by photographer Ketaki Sheth way back in 1987 at a house in Juhu which had been rented for the film shoot.

“Being at the height of her stardom, she was conscious of the camera, suggesting the right angles as I moved around her. I think she would probably have had me do just a close-up or two but I preferred to include the props around her — the lights, the fantasy beach poster and the gilded birdcage, the oversized leather sofa. She looked every bit of the star she was then — radiant, confident, lonely,” recalls Ketaki, whose exhibition of Bollywood retrospective snaps is currently on.
