Review: Where is the horror?

Yet another horror film but nowhere close to the mastery that 'Orphan' displayed. This one is entirely fabricated, has a minimal plot and uses camera tricks to multiply the bogus looking scares. Famke Janssen has been the central character of a horror film many times before and she comes into this film with the same no-nonsense- implacably  stoic approach she displayed earlier on in her career.

The film is about a woman (Janssen) who murdered her abusive cop-husband (Michael Pare) and has been confined within her own home. The premise itself is unconvincing. The scares and surprises that follow are also too stagey, framed as they are by a distinct lack of logic and sensibility. Even the ghost is so indistinct that you want to laugh rather than be scared out of your wits.

The film in fact plays like a reality game show where the central character has to live her life within the radius of a 100feet with the ghost of her murdered husband , plaguing her with several life-threatening hurdles. But the visual play is never gratifying, the narrative is too formulaic and the intelligence quotient is near zero. A real waste of time and money, this!
