Review: 'Dev S/O Muddegowda' (Kannada)

Film: Dev S/O Muddegowda (Kannada)
Director: Indrajit Lankesh
Cast:  Diganth, Charmee, Nathaliya Kaur, Ananth Nag, Indrajit, Sudha
Rating: **1/2

This is one of the films that not only created much hype before its release but has also skirted a lot of controversy in the recent past. Director Indrajit Lankesh has ensured all the ingredients to cater to the needs of youth. Indrajit has not only handled the megaphone really well but also shakes leg along with Nathaliya Kaur.

This film proves that if Indrajit ever does become an actor, Sandalwood’s male leads might just face stiff competition.
As far as performance of the lead pair is concerned, it is Diganth who walks away with all honours. He is at his best in humour as well as sentiment sequences.

Charmee, who makes a comeback after acting in Kannada film, Lava Kusha is charming. Her dancing skills deserve appreciation. Sharan has done a decent job as a supporting character while Ananth Nag is superb as an agonised father.

The story revolves around Dev (Diganth), the son of garment factory owner Muddegowda (Ananth Nag). Pampered by Muddegowda, Dev spends time with friends and fails to focus on education. He happens to meet Kavya (Charmee), a choreographer and both of them become friends.

Meanwhile, as expected Dev fails in his exams and invites Muddegowda’s wrath. A small argument with his father leads him to walk out of his home. While Dev is in dilemma, Kavya extends a helping hand — circumstances compel Dev to act in a bike chasing scene when the film’s  hero Deepu (Indrajit) is injured in a road accident. The climax is how Dev realises his dream of becoming an actor and what happens to his friend, guide and philosopher, Kavya.

There are many sequences in this film that remind us of Hindi films we’ve all adored — like the stark similarities to Wake Up Sid. However, Dev S/O Muddegowda has its fair share of glamour, entertainment, comedy and loads of sentiment and that makes it a worthwhile watch.
