It's really not a bad concept - four unrelated individuals drawn to crime and the lure of quick riches to fulfill latent dreams and aspirations or simply to escape a miserable life. The production supports the premise of the film by providing sets, locations and costumes which are authentic and attractive. The milieu is correctly small town, middle India. Vijay Raaz and Raghuveer Yadav infuse some zest into their parts, helped along by the few good lines in the film.
This is where the plaudits end.
Siddharth Koirala and Gracy Singh are uninteresting to watch and scary when in extreme close up. The filmmaker seems keen on capitalising on Singh's dancing skills and has her do everything from a Lagaan-type village belle number to a contemporary dance sequence. However, the songs and dances are misplaced, numerous and only disrupt the narrative which starts off at breathless pace but hits a speed bump with too many flashbacks.
The script takes us to the past of the four characters and their compulsions for stealing, but the style of doing so and the frequency with which this device is used confuses and distracts.
What is also confusing is the genre - it's sometimes drama, then comedy, then horror, back to comedy and finally - well, I'm not really sure what it is.
The synopsis says 'an apparent comedy with a tinge of simmering darkness', which suggests the filmmaker was also unsure.
