Review: 'Ghost'

If adventure is your thing, go on, have a good laugh but don’t complain you weren’t warned.

Review: 'Ghost'
Film: Ghost (A)
Cast:
Sayali Bhagat, Shiney Ahuja, Tej Sapru
Director:
Puja Jatinder Bedi
Rating: Gone with the ghost

The action takes place in a hospital. Obviously, there are doctors, interns, nurses, forceps, scalpels, blood, gore.

Ghost is so effective, it left this reviewer mentally scarred. Doctors (not the ones in the film, dufus!) say it’ll take a while for recovery. Since a review is inescapable, the reviewer managed to scribble a few spoilers for the greater good of humanity.

Spoiler # 1: Each and everyone wears brilliant make-up -- in life, in death, in murder, in crime. From the doctors to the ghost to Sayali Bhagat (as Dr Suhani), its so OTT, you better be scared. Ketchup, burnt chocolate, prosthetic make-up, it’s all there.

Spoiler # 2: Shiney Ahuja as detective Vijay Singh has one dialogue he can’t get over: ‘Main kaatil ko dhoondhkar rahoonga’ or something to that effect. He’s estranged from his father, a rich businessman, had something called ‘retrograde amnesia’ after an “accident” and has a “personal” connection with the ghost.

Spoiler # 3: Like most horror films, this is a revenge drama. And the ‘ghost’ is a wronged firang. Ooh, new that!

Spoiler # 4: The ghost has an assistant -- a half evil, half godly being. We know of his dual personality because there’s a little horn on the evil side of his head and a torch right in the centre separates it from the good. This torch the ghost uses when striking in the darkness of the night (3am to be precise). There, lessons in utility.

(And yeah, the same guy also turns into Jesus at the fag end)

Spoiler # 5: Good wins over evil and we know it. And that’s why it’s a cliché. Ghost milks this idea until we start wishing for good to lose over evil for the rest of the decade.

Spoiler # 6: Sandip Soparrkar (yes, the choreographer) has a guest appearance or so say the credits. Why you ask do we not spot him, refer to Spoiler # 1.

Spoiler # 7: If you still haven’t made up your mind whether to watch Ghost or no, read Spoiler # 1 to 6. Can’t say about getting scared, scarred you most likely will be.

If adventure is your thing, go on, have a good laugh but don’t complain you weren’t warned.
