After Hrs review: 'Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya'

Film: Tere Naal Love Ho Gaya
Directed by: Mandeep Kumar
Cast: Ritesh Deshmukh, Genelia Deshmukh, Om Puri, Tinnu Anand
Rating: ***

It’s not often that real-life star couples manage to translate the off screen chemistry well enough on screen. But, Riteish-Genelia, seem to have had no problem in getting their real chemistry bang on for reel here. Set between Punjab and Haryana, the film starts off on a fast pace and much to the director’s credit doesn’t slow down right till the end. That’s certainly a plus point of this film, but the USP is undoubtedly the lead pair. It’s fresh, peppy and lovable all through. It’s been a while that one has seen Riteish do a solo film, and he does full justice to the opportunity he gets in this one.

Though it’s Genelia who the film belongs to, Riteish is commendable as well. His performance acts as the apt buffer to Genelia’s ‘Little Miss Sunshine’ act, that she seems to have been perfecting with each film. We have seen her be the bubbly Aditi before too, but she takes it forward in this one, though it’s hard not to remember Kareena Kapoor as Geet in Jab We Met.

Viren (Riteish), a rickshaw driver wants to settle his dues with the owner of the rickshaw (Tinnu Anand) but instead finds himself becoming the kidnapper of his daughter Mini (Genelia). The fact however is that it is Mini who gets herself kidnapped, as she wants to escape from being engaged to a guy, for whom she is only a ticket to Canada. The two run and the adventure begins.
Though there are convenient situations that happen only on the silver screen, Genelia and Riteish’s chemistry allows you to overlook all that and enjoy the ride. This film’s probably Riteish-Genelia’s best so far. All the other actors seem to have a tight grip on the characters they play as well. Om Puri and Tinnu especially seem at home as the Chaudhary and the harrowed dad respectively. The director seems to know well the culture of Punjab and Haryana and has generously incorporated it, including the way, Genelia’s fiancé brags about his money power.
The background music here is commendable and keeps the tempo going. The songs and dance are well-knit in the story. Filmi at times, it doesn’t fail to make you smile. Fun watch with your family.
