Since we’re just around Children’s Day, we have chosen films which are targeted at the young ones. And as far as children’s films are concerned, Disney is the obvious choice. Classics like Sleeping Beauty to the recently-released Up are up for post-mortem.

Since its inception, the studio has made us believe that there exists a world of fairytales where good wins over evil and there is always a happy ending. One of the beautiful fairytales was Sleeping Beauty which has completed 50 years and has got a new lease of life by digital technology. The film with the story of a princess in focus was warmly greeted by critics and fans alike and by now it’s one among the revered classics from the Disney canon. The rich colours and dazzling orchestrations make it a bright creation leaving everyone enchanted.

Tinkerbell has played supporting roles in Peter Pan movies, but last year’s movie focusing on this adorable character was something of a pleasant surprise. One helluva feel-good film, this adventure is sweet fun.

Pluto also got huge competition with Bolt because of his endearing nature. It’s a fable about a super-dog who assumes he possesses superpowers thanks to his TV show but he soon comes to terms with a different reality. From the initial spectacular race scene, this one is a warm watch simply for its brilliant premise and non-stop action.

Disney hardly fails to excite the kids, but Race to Witch Mountain which was a reboot of the 1975 original was not quite up to the mark. A little sci-fi, a little adventure, but a slightly fast and engaging screenplay would have made it a much better fare. Still, not bad.
Whenever Pixar has joined hands with Disney, it’s nothing short of magic. A septuagenarian as a hero! Sounds weird, right? Well, in Up, Pixar’s newest hero on the block is a grumpy old man with creaking bones who embarks on an adventure by tying countless helium balloons to his house. The supporting cast includes a chubby overeager kid, a dog and an endangered bird. The animation is dazzling, the story is superb, the detailing is flawless and now we are running out of adjectives to praise this instant classic.
Like its characters, the films from the Disney catalogue fly high because the emotions are exactly where they should belong, connecting with the viewer. The conclusion: They make films for grown-ups which kids can enjoy too rather than the other way round.
