Teraa Surroor Review: It's all about Himesh Reshammiya but Dublin's the best thing in the film!
Himesh Reshammiya in Teraa Surroor

Movie: Teraa Surroor - A Lethal Love Story

Starring: Himesh Reshammiya, Farah Karimaee, Shernaz Patel, Naseeruddin Shah and Shekhar Kapur
Directed by: Shawn Arranha
Rating: *1/2 (One and half stars)

What's it about:

Raghu (Himesh Reshammiya), a 'gangster', who is on a mission to save his lady love Tara (Farah Karimaee). He travels all the way to Dublin to save her from the cops as she is wrongly framed for smuggling drugs. When he cannot get her out of jail legally, he decides jail break is the only way out. He's also looking for a guy called Aniruddha Brahman, who is behind Tara's arrest. Shekhar Kapoor is Rajeev Kaul the Indian ambassador to Ireland, while Naseeruddin Shah is Robin Santino, a notorious criminal who is known for his prison breaks. Kabir Bedi plays the Mumbai police  commissioner and Shernaz Patel is cast as Tara's mother.

What's good:

Dublin. That's the best thing about the movie. The picture perfect locales are the only saving grace of the movie that otherwise has little to boast about. Naseeruddin Shah, Shernaz Patel and Shekhar Kapoor somehow find their way into the movie and do whatever they can for it. But obviously that's not enough. The movie is often unintentionally funny. Not something you'd want to spend your money on to experience. The songs are passable, with some being reprised versions of hits like Ishq Samandar from Kaante and the famous track Tera Surroor.

What's not:

For some reason the makers feel the need to explain every sentence that the characters say. So if they say that Facebook account has been deleted, it's followed by a shot of someone doing so. Another scene has a character talking about someone making a phone call over the internet, immediately you see a person wearing a headset doing the needful. Similarly, when Naseer tells Himesh that he should get to know the streets of Dublin, the next shot is of the actor buying and studiously learning the directions on the map. Get the drift? Then there's newbie Farah (who looks and acts like Nargis Fakhri, which is definitely not a good thing). She doesn't speak much, pouts a lot and walks around look desolate. As for Himesh, he tries to keep it intense, refusing to smile even when he is around the girl he loves. He tries to maintain one expression on his face, but sometimes fails to do even that. If he flashes his six-pack abs, she gets to show her toned ones too. As expected, the focus is on Himesh, who shoots people, walks around in his ganjis and even sleeps with a call girl. He does it all to serve the country. The makers try to give a tadka of nationalism to the proceedings by adding a scene that pops out randomly, which sees an Irish man make fun of Indians' incompetence at shooting with a gun. As expected, Himesh takes up the challenge, hits the target and then goes on to give a speech on national integrity. This sure is a lethal tale.

What to do:

Watch the movie only if you are a Himesh fan or if you like watching movies that are unintentionally funny.
