Television review: 'One Tree Hill'

One Tree Hill
Star World: Monday – Friday, 10 pm

What it is about: It is Hollywood’s version of Deewar based in a ficticious town called One Tree Hill Two sons of a father. One legimate  (Nathan Scott) and one illegimate (Lucas Scott). The one who stays with him is rich while the son without his name lives with his mom and hates his father.

Both sons are competing for the same position in the  school’s  basketball team like the father..There is jealousy between the two brothers. The father clearly supports Nathan And yes, there is the female angle..Nathan who falls for Haley (Lucas’ best friend) while Lucas pines for Nathan’s girl Peyton. As the show progresses there is more drama, murder, lies, and music.

What’s good: One Tree Hill consists of various themes, such as love, friendship, rivalries and betrayal, and explores the reasons behind them. The story largely revolves around the two half-brothers and it has enough masala and man candy to keep the girls hooked.

For the guys there is the usual relationship drama, troubled relationship with the father and basketball. If you make it through the first few episodes you are sure to be hooked. One of the show’s strong points are the songs. Many bands make appearances throughout the seasons.

What’s not: You may at some point in the nine seaons begin to feel that the show is being stretched. You might feel a disconnect at some level with the sports-heavy show. the show came under serious fire for their approach to teen pregnancy. Dark and twisty Peyton swings between ‘I-love-Nathan’ and ‘I-love-Lucas’ to the point that you want to make the decision for her.

Way Forward: It is not for the fans of Sex And The City or Californication. It is a high school drama and more likely to appeal to gals and boys in their twenties but there might be a bit of nostalgia for the rest. This American TV series started in 2003 and went on for nine seasons. The good thing is that it doesn’t look dated. If you make it through the first few episodes you are sure to be hooked.
