Review: 'Rangappa Hogbitna' is a sorry effort at situational comedy

Film: Rangappa Hogbitna (Kannada)
Director:
Prasanna
Cast: Ramesh Arvind, Sanjjana
Rating: **

This film promised to bring the situational comedy genre to Kannada. It could’ve well been a trendsetter. But, it ends up being a sorry effort, with half-baked excuses for actors, who cannot emote right. Had there been better thought put to the production, this could’ve been a winner!

This remake of Death At A Funeral seems to have everything in place, be it humour or the storyline. Unfortunately, the actors playing these parts fail to translate the same to comedy on screen. Ramesh Arvind, Sanjjanaa and Sihi Kahi Chandru seem to be the only recognisable faces. The rest seem like extras who’ve suddenly been asked to fill the space of absent actors.

One’s heart goes out to Ramesh Arvind, whose comic timing and antics seem to be like a lone warrior in a battle. Makers like this need to be reprimanded, as they’ve fooled the audiences in the cinema halls with a sorry excuse for a film and have made their money on the sly through their television rights. Tsk tsk!
