Mastizaade review: A feast for Sunny Leone fans, this one is shocking and scandalous!

Sunny is the film’s highlight even in terms of the performances. Though not completely tapped in this film either, her timing for comedy is something to look forward to. Somehow, the second half of the film just cannot keep pace and as the film progresses, it goes into the ridiculously slapstick zone.

Mastizaade review: A feast for Sunny Leone fans, this one is shocking and scandalous!
Mastizaade

Film: MASTIZAADE
Starring: Sunny Leone, Vir Das, Tusshar Kapoor, Asrani, Shaad Randhawa
Directed by: Milap Milan Zaveri
Rating: ** (Two stars)

WHAT’S IT ABOUT:
It’s raining sex comedies. The utterly dismal and disappointing Kyaa Kool Hai Hum 3, which released last week, left a bitter after-taste for audiences. This week, Milap Zaveri’s Mastizaade manages to salvage the genre to some extent, simply by staying true to it. The film is about Aditya Chotiya (Vir) and Sunny Kele (Tusshar), two sex addicts who enroll into a rehabilitation center run by twin sisters Laila (Sunny) and Lily Lele (Sunny again). Amidst madness and confusion galore, love happens between the two couples but not without its share of troubles. The hurdles come in the form of Desh Premi (Shaad) who turns out to be Lily’s fiancé and then there’s Son-Das (Suresh Menon) who won’t stop at anything to woo Sunny Kele.

WHAT’S HOT:
In terms of a sex comedy, what Mastizaade promises, it delivers. The gags that one saw in the film’s trailer are all there; the double meaning dialogues make you wonder how they were passed; the film is  high on the sex quotient with director Milap Zaveri ensuring that his lead star Sunny Leone is glamorously presented in almost every frame. In fact, Sunny is the film’s highlight even in terms of the performances. Though not completely tapped in this film either, her timing for comedy is something to look forward to. Vir Das is such a fine actor that he brings dignity even while playing a sex addict; he’s an absolute joy to watch. The songs are catchy and also have been shot well. The first half of the film is almost a riot – most of the content is guaranteed to shock and scandalize you.

WHAT’S NOT:
Somehow, the second half of the film just cannot keep pace and as the film progresses, it goes into the ridiculously slapstick zone. The gags start wearing out after a point mainly because of the lack of a story. If only the writers (Mushtaq Sheikh and Milap) had taken this sex comedy a bit more seriously, they would’ve realized that Suresh Menon’s gay caricature isn’t funny anymore. Or that seeing a veteran like Asrani almost bare-clad under a waterfall is awkward and embarrassing.

WHAT TO DO:

A feast for Sunny Leone fans, Mastizaade is shocking and scandalous.
